Cycling for All
Following the amalgamation of the two cycling groups, Cycling For All is now the name of the new combined group.
With current membership in excess of 20, the group hopes to be able to offer two rides each month, a shorter one of up to around 12 - 15 miles on cycle tracks or quiet roads wherever possible, and a longer one of maybe up to 30 miles. Members can then select which of the rides they would like to come on.
Routes may be both local to Meopham and from time to time more distant where travelling by car to the start will be required. The latter have included The Crab & Winkle route from Canterbury to Whitstable and back, The Heron Trail around the Hoo Peninsular, Reculver to Minnis Bay and back, Penshurst to Tonbridge and back and Cliffe to Gravesend and return.
Our meeting dates are the first Thursday in the month for the shorter ride and possibly the third Wednesday for the longer ride, depending on circumstances, weather, etc. We usually start at 10.00 am and wherever possible our rides will include a stop for coffee somewhere on route. If travelling further afield, we may try and include a pub lunch at the end of the ride. Our aim is to ensure that our outings are fun for everyone by combining both the physical and social aspects of cycling as part of a group.
The only requirement is that you have your own bike, wear a helmet on the rides and (ideally) have the means of transporting your bike by car for those rides starting some distance away. Electric bikes are welcome and in fact almost half our members use them!
